North Guiding Star Academy was founded by Ms. Rupinder Gosal and Ms. Hina, who also teach every lesson. Both are certified teachers with advanced degrees in science and mathematics and expertise in English.

Ms. Gosal is a former Assistant Professor of Chemistry and a former Director of Education at a BC K–9 independent school, where she led curriculum planning, Ministry inspections, student learning plans (IEPs), and the hiring and training of a team of 35 teachers and staff. She also founded and ran her own IELTS and English training centre for five years.

Ms. Hina is a certified BC teacher with a master's degree in physics and mathematics and a Bachelor of Education. She is an expert in science, math and English, and her knowledge of the BC, IB, AP and international curricula helps students who are new to Canada or moving between school systems settle in quickly.

Every subject from Kindergarten to Grade 12, including math, sciences, English, social studies, languages and business. We also offer IELTS preparation for all ages and entrance exam preparation such as the SSAT and ISEE.
Our two co-founders, Ms. Rupinder Gosal and Ms. Hina, teach every lesson themselves. Both are certified teachers with master's degrees in the sciences and mathematics, and expertise in English.
In-person lessons in Surrey are $50 per hour. Online lessons are $65 per hour. IELTS lessons are $50 per hour, in person or online. Group and sibling discounts are available for groups of 2 to 4 students.
Yes. The diagnostic assessment is free and there is no obligation to sign up afterward. You will receive the results and a suggested learning plan.
We teach to the BC curriculum and are also experienced with IB, AP and international curricula, which helps students who are new to Canada or moving between school systems.
Groups have 4 students maximum, and every student in a group is at the same level, so each one still gets individual attention.
Yes. We teach online students anywhere in the world through live video lessons, scheduled around your time zone.
Yes. Our own workbooks, worksheets, practice tests and IELTS packs are included in your fees. Online students receive digital copies.
You receive a written progress report each month using the same BC proficiency scale schools use (Emerging, Developing, Proficient, Extending), plus a parent meeting each term.
No. We prepare students of every age, from high school students applying to universities to working professionals applying for work or permanent residence. We teach both IELTS Academic and General Training.
You can pay by Interac e-Transfer, credit or debit card, or cash or cheque for in-person lessons. International students can pay by card. You receive an official receipt for every payment.
Our hours are flexible. We schedule lessons around your family, including after school, evenings and weekends, and around your time zone for online students.
Yes. We run weekend classes on Saturdays and Sundays, in person in Surrey and online, for every program: K–12 tutoring, IELTS, entrance exams and handwriting. Choose “Weekends” when you book your free assessment.
Our centre is at 15355 Sequoia Drive, Surrey, BC. Online lessons are available worldwide.
Give us at least 24 hours' notice and we will reschedule the lesson at no charge.
Yes. We offer Punjabi (Gurmukhi) and Hindi (Devanagari) classes for children, teens and adults, from complete beginners to fluent speakers. Students learn to read, write and speak, with stories, songs and festivals that keep them connected to their roots. Classes run in person in Surrey, online worldwide and on weekends.
Yes. Our handwriting improvement classes are for all ages, from young children learning to print to older students and adults who want neater, faster writing for school, tests or the handwritten IELTS exam. We work on pencil grip, letter formation, printing, cursive, spacing and speed.
Yes. We support students with IEPs and adapt lessons, pace and materials to each student's needs.
Yes. Both teachers speak English, Punjabi and Hindi, so parent meetings can be held in whichever language you prefer.
Pick any day of the week, from 10 am to 8 pm Pacific Time. Each assessment takes about 30 minutes, in person in Surrey or online. Your time is reserved as soon as you book.
